Feshie Glider Weighing Service Gift Vouchers Trial Lessons

The BGA requires that gliders are weighed after any significant modification or repair and anyway, every 8years.

Most modern German glider maintenance manuals state that the glider should be weighed at least every 4 years.

We have recently purchased an electronic weighing platform at Feshie and are offering a weighing service for a fee of only £25 (to recoup the cost).

Documentation required before your glider can be weighed

It is a waste of time to start weighing a glider until all the required information is available.

  • The Certificate of Airworthiness
  • The glider logbook
  • The Flight Manual
  • The Technical/Service/Maintenance Manual or equivalent (not all gliders have these)
  • The £25 fee (cheques made out to "CGC Hangar Account", invoice/receipt can be supplied)
Preparation Back to Top

It is extremely annoying to have to repeat a weighing because, for example, a full oxygen cylinder or a battery has not been installed.

Your glider needs to be fully rigged and loaded as if you are about to go flying - batteries, barographs, cameras, oxygen cylinder and mask, etc. all installed. Taping is not essential. But the "variable load", water ballast, sand-wiches, maps, drink, pilot, parachute, etc. is NOT included in the weighing.

Time taken and help required
Back to Top

Normally about 2 hours are needed for the preparation of the glider and the taking of all the measurements. Besides the inspector doing the weighing, one other helper is required all of the time, preferably the owner, and a third to balance the wings for a brief time.
When the weighing is complete, you will receive back
Back to Top
  • Your glider logbook signed up by a BGA inspector;
  • A record of the weighing attached to the logbook;
  • The Certificate of Airworthiness weighing schedule will be amended;
  • A new placard reflecting any changes required.
