Trial Lesson Flights at
Cairngorm Gliding Club

Trial flights are available at weekends and sometimes during the week, in our 2-seater, dual-control gliders. Your qualified instructor will let you experience the pleasures of gliding in the Cairngorm Mountains.

You will be shown how to fly the glider and then, depending on the weather conditions, you will be invited to take the controls yourself and try out your flying skills.

Learn to fly over the spectacular Cairngorm Mountains
Gliding is a fun and challenging sport which can be enjoyed by all age groups, with approximately 10,000 people at over 100 clubs in the UK. All of the clubs are members of the British Gliding Association (the BGA).

Cairngorm is one of the smaller clubs but has the most spectacular scenery to fly over, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The minimum age to fly solo is sixteen; there is no upper age limit. All instructional flights are flown by instructors with BGA qualifications.

Trial Lesson Fees

We operate a fleet of two modern glass-fibre two seater dual control, training gliders.
On arrival at our airstrip at Feshiebridge a club member will assist you with the formalities, give an introductory brief about your trail lesson and show you to your dual control glider.
Safety always comes first and your flight will be carried out with a qualified gliding instructor.
You are then towed behind a 180 hp Robin light aircraft to a height of 2000’ at which point your instructor will release the towrope leaving your glider free to soar over the spectacular scenery of the Cairngorm mountain range, and Spey Valley.
You will then be invited to try the controls for yourself
Your trial lesson will last for approximately 20 to 30 minuets during which time you can take photographs and enjoy the unique experience of soaring as free as a bird after which your instructor will take you back for a smooth landing at Feshiebridge airstrip.

Trial lessons cannot be booked in advance, but we will do our best to fly you on the day if conditions are suitable.

It is best, in the first instance, to phone the club (01540 651317) at about 10.30 am on the proposed day of flying, or the launch point on 07847 214551 to find out about weather conditions and club activity.
However if you are in the area, feel free to just call in at the club.
Trial Lesson cost £60.00 and includes temporary membership for a period of one month during which time you can fly at club member’s rates.

To fly in a glider, you should be in reasonable health, should be more than 4ft 6in tall (so that you can see out over the cockpit edge!) and should weigh less than 16 stones.

A Trial Gliding Lesson Gift Voucher costs £59 and includes one month's Club membership. During that month you will be a club member, able to come back and to fly at normal club member's rates.

Feshie MountainFlight availability is weather dependent  - rain or strong winds usually preclude flying.

Your trial lesson includes temporary membership for a month after your flight, during which time you can come back as a normal club member and fly at club rates.

Alternatively, if you join the club as a full member on the day of your trial lesson, the normal club joining fee will be waived.

As a tourist area accommodation is plentiful, with a wide selection of hotels, self catering, caravan, camping and hostels. Strathspey and Aviemore (only seven miles from the airfield) have a great diversity of activities for all the family. Adventure parks, fishing, golf, skiing, archery, water sports, riding and trekking are just a few.

To arrange a trial flight either turn up at the airfield or contact Chris Fiorentini by emailing Chris at chris@capercaillie.flyer.co.uk.

You can also phone the airfield (normally weekends only) on 01540 651317 or the launch point on 07847 214551 during the hours of operation.
