Please read the following update from the Operations Committee before flying the ASH25.

Information for all ASH25 Pilots

1. Minimum P1 Requirements
As of now, the minimum qualification for flying as pilot in charge of the ASH25 is 500 hours, FAI Gold Badge, a BGA Assistant Instructor Rating, and a type conversion with one of the training/ checking pilots listed below. The revised requirements also apply to existing P1s and while we regret this may disqualify some existing P1s from continuing in that role it is unavoidable.

2. Landing Flap
All ASH25 pilots are reminded of the recommended circuit procedure, in particular the use of landing flap. The recommended procedure is –

Start the circuit in neutral flap, ie position 3, monitoring the vario and adjusting speed as normal. Wheel down may be selected early in the circuit. Landing flap should not be selected before the base leg. The key decision point is when you can say “I am sure of getting in from here if I select landing flap now” and that will normally be either just before or just after the final turn depending on height, weather, etc. When converting new P1 candidates the training pilot should point out the need to monitor speed and adjust attitude when selecting landing flap.

All training/checking pilots are asked to ensure that all P1s are reminded of this procedure.

3. Currency
Since the ASH25 has been out of service for 8 months a check flight with a training pilot is mandatory for all P1s before flying as pilot in charge.

4. Training/Checking Pilots
Currently these are:

Mike Carruthers (SGC)
Al Eddie and Roy Dalling (Deeside)
Nick Norman (Cairngorm)
Robert Tait (Highland).
